How was the lights display made?

It took our in-house tech developer Andrew a few days to develop the light display amongst his usual development requests using a “raspberry pie” computer and Vixen lights software. 15 LED lightbulbs are individually synchronised to match the notes in The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Andrew listened to the music and selected precisely when each bulb needed to light up to correspond to the music. The software then projected a live animation picture of where the lights would display in our shop window to help Andrew work out where to position them. We first showcased this light display in 2015, but we couldn’t find a piece of music that was more magical than The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from The Nutcracker so we’ve reignited the display for Christmas 2017.

When are the Christmas light displays?

The light bulbs decorate the shop window all year round but are only specially synchronised to music at Christmas time, so don’t miss an opportunity to see the display! The display’s running time is just under 2 minutes of pure Christmassy joy!

You can see the Christmas lights show Tues-Saturday at 12pm, 2pm, 3pm, and 4pm. The best viewing time is definitely 4pm when it's getting dark, as you can feel the full affect of the twinkling lights on your Christmas spirit. When you visit the display, you can also marvel at the gorgeously ornate white leotard inspired by Swan Lake that’s the centrepiece for our shop window!

Let us know on social media what your favourite part of the light display is! Our’s is during the scales.
