I hope everyone has had a fabulous start to the year, I personally can’t believe we are already in the middle of February, time is definitely flying by! Seems like a long time since I last wrote a blog so let’s see what has been missed…
I hope you all caught Madonna’s Superbowl half time show it definitely was a performance. You can see the performance here. There was a lot of talk after that she had mimed throughout, personally I never have a problem with artists miming when they are doing big show stopping numbers, id rather see an amazing show that has equally good vocals than have a performance ruined by out of tune singing. In the ideal world yes they should be able to do both, but if they can’t I’d definitely go for miming with an amazing visual.

Madonna’s show was directed by Jamie King, who has worked as creative director for Madonna for the past 13 years, and is interestingly enough a superstar in his own right. It also wasn’t Jamie’s first Superbowl experience, Jamie directed Diana Ross’ half time show in 1996, and also performed as one of Michael Jackson’s dancers during his halftime show in 1993. I think we can all agree that once again Jamie King has put on another fabulous show.
I must also pay tribute to the legend that is Whitney Houston, I was so shocked to hear the news on Saturday night, we have lost yet another musical icon. In the past 2 years we have lost several greats and I guess like them Whitney’s death was a shock but not a great surprise as her problems have been well documented. However like with Michael Jackson and Amy Winehouse, I do hope that the circumstances in which Whitney dies don’t deter from the fact that she had an amazing voice and that she was loved by millions.
I have been really busy lately, I fractured my foot a few weeks back so I have been nursing that back to health whilst trying to keep up with work. Having never really had an injury before I have found it really difficult to follow the doctors instructions and keep off of it. I personally feel that when it comes to injuries that only you know your own body and that you have to understand your body and know what it can cope with. So between rehearsals and jobs I have been icing my foot and resting as much as possible which is really the only cure with such an injury. If anyone else is suffering with injuries I do recommend resting it and not pushing it too much, as quite often this just turns an injury into a long-term injury if it isn’t allowed to heal properly, I know this is so hard as a dancer, as we are renowned for not being able to sit still.
I hope you all have a lovely Valentines day that is filled with love, although I am a firm believer that if you love someone you should be showing it everyday. Unfortunately im spending my Valentines day in rehearsals (more about that next week) but it is a great team of people and my love is dance so it suits me perfectly!
