World Tutu Day - Best On Stage Tutus

World Tutu Day - Top 4 Favourite On Stage Tutus

By Move Dance on 2nd Feb 2023

Happy World Tutu Day! To celebrate we had to tell you our top 4 favorite tutus from some of the UK’s most iconic ballet companies and productions. There are so many different types of Tutu that come in all different colors, lengths, and styles. There’s the romantic tutu with its soft, downward flowing tulle layers that fall between the knee and ankle, the pancake tutu known for its several, short stiff layers of tulle that create a horizontal tutu. Finally, there's the Bell tutu which is mid-thigh length and is usually tightly gathered getting its shape from the lack-wired hoop, giving a softer and fuller appearance. Keep reading to find out which tutus have made it to our top 4 in celebration of World Tutu Day!
Royal Ballet’s BlueBird

From the ballet Sleeping Beauty this tutu features in the charming BlueBird pas de deux. Guests of Aurora and Dèsirè's wedding in the last act of The Sleeping Beauty, the duet is airy, delicate and nimble, with choreography that captures the moment when a bird teaches a princess to fly. A beautiful duet matched with a beautiful captivating blue tutu.

English National Ballet's White Swan

Swan Lake is probably one of the most well known ballets in the industry and the tutu of the White Swan are probably one of the most well recognised costumes in the dance world. The tutu is elegant, and beautiful, which perfectly captivates the enchanted princess.

Birmingham Royal Ballet's Giselle

What's the first thing you think of when you hear the word Giselle? For us it is the long flowing romantic tutus. The ghostly, atmospheric tale is perfectly represented in the tutus which make the dancers look like they are floating across the stage.

Royal Ballet's Black Swan

This tutu is from The Royal Ballet's production of Swan Lake, similar to the main heroine of the production the White Swan; its evil counterpart the Black Swan is one of the most well-known characters in the ballet industry. The tutu is bold and dark which perfectly matches the sinister and evil character of Odile in the ballet.

Those lovely tutus with layers of net are beyond beautiful so of course we had to dedicate an entire day to them so World Tutu Day has to be one of our favourite days of the year.

Hopefully you enjoyed reading about our fave tutus and love them just as much as we do. Did you know we sell a wide range of beautiful tutus and dance costumes perfect for practice wear, show rehearsals and even the stage.
